Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve

Sprawling across nearly 2,000 square kilometres of untouched wilderness along the Myanmar border, Namdapha is widely celebrated by international botanists as one of the richest biodiversity hotspots on Earth.

Because its altitude ascends from 200-metre subtropical jungle riverbanks to 4,500-metre snow-crowned peaks at Dapha Bum, it is the only protected park on the planet known to provide habitat for all four big cat species: the Royal Bengal Tiger, Common Indian Leopard, the secretive Clouded Leopard, and the elusive Snow Leopard.

  • Rare Endemics: Red Panda, critically endangered Namdapha Flying Squirrel, Hoolock Gibbon, and Malayan Sun Bear.
  • Wild River Treks: Multi-day expeditions tracing the Noa-Dihing River to legendary camps at Deban, Firmbase, and Hornbill Point.
  • Native Trackers: Guided exclusively by indigenous forest wardens and Lisu tribal naturalists.

Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary (Pakhui Tiger Reserve)

Tucked along the foothills where the Eastern Himalayas meet the Brahmaputra plains, Pakke is an internationally hailed conservation triumph. Through an inspiring partnership with the indigenous Nyishi community, village elders actively safeguard the nesting trees of Arunachal's most magnificent avian giants.

Dense semi-evergreen and subtropical broadleaf forests flank the crystal-clear Pakke and Kameng rivers, forming an uninterrupted haven for Asian Elephants, Royal Bengal Tigers, Gaurs (Indian Bison), Leopards, and wild Asian Dholes.

  • Hornbill Capital: Sight four stunning species — the Great Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Rufous-necked Hornbill, and Oriental Pied Hornbill.
  • Nyishi Eco-Guides: Walk silent morning forest tracks with conservation champions who know every tree and roosting nest.
  • Untouched Solitude: Gentle bamboo raft crossings, riverside eco-cottages, and evening calls of barking deer.

Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary

Revered worldwide among ornithologists, naturalists, and wildlife photographers as one of the ultimate birding destinations on Earth, Eaglenest spans cool temperate forests, bamboo thickets, and misty subalpine ridges between 500 and 3,250 metres.

The sanctuary shot into global scientific prominence in 2006 with the discovery of the Bugun Liocichla (*Liocichla bugunorum*) — the first new bird species described from mainland India in more than half a century, found right here in these ancient mossy canopies.

  • 500+ Avian Treasures: Home to Ward's Trogon, Fire-tailed Myzornis, Blyth's Tragopan, Temminck's Tragopan, and Beautiful Nuthatch.
  • Legendary Birding Camps: Stay at Lama Camp, Bompu, and Sessni with high-altitude scopes and specialized ornithology spotters.
  • Rich Mammalian Life: Endangered Red Pandas, Bhutan Gliding Squirrels, Capped Langurs, and Asiatic Black Bears.

Planning Your Arunachal Wildlife Journey

Key information to prepare for an unforgettable Himalayan wilderness expedition.

Best Time to Visit

October to April is the premier season for Arunachal wildlife and birding. The monsoon rains recede, mountain trails open up, skies remain crisp and clear, and winter brings hundreds of migratory birds into the valleys.

November to March is especially recommended for high-altitude birding in Eaglenest and rainforest trekking in Namdapha.

Permits & Regulations

Arunachal Pradesh is a protected frontier state. Indian nationals require an Inner Line Permit (ILP), while foreign travellers need a Protected Area Permit (PAP).

Simbo Solaris Travel manages your complete documentation and forest entry approvals prior to your arrival.

What to Pack

Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with solid ankle support are essential for rainforest and ridge trekking. Pack layered fleece and a warm down jacket for Eaglenest's crisp morning temperatures.

A good pair of 8x42 or 10x42 binoculars, headlamp, leech socks (for post-monsoon), and high-capacity power banks are strongly recommended.

Where the forest whispers and the Himalayas keep their secrets.
